Addressing Existential Challenges to People and Planet

There is a 70% likelihood of the planet reaching 1.5°C of global warming above pre-industrial levels in the next 5 years.

– World Meteorological Organization

Climate change is a direct threat to biodiversity in all corners of the world. Fertile soil is being lost at an unprecedented rate, mostly due to unsustainable agricultural practices affecting 3.2 billion people. The amount of food lost costs US$2.6 trillion annually—enough to feed the 815 million undernourished people in the world four times over.

Inadequate infrastructure, inefficiencies, and limited collaboration across value chains are the main causes for the failure in reducing loss and waste.

150 million tons of single use plastic produced annually and only 9% of the world’s plastic waste is recycled.

The Global Alliance is building partnerships at all levels; garnering political support, and mobilizing large-scale sustainable action within communities.

Most of the world’s 350 million SMEs are disaggregated and lack the knowledge, resources, and influence to undertake similar scales of transitions. A virtuous ‘social network’ approach, that draws upon best-practices in circularity processes, is required.

The Global Alliance provides mentoring support, mobilizes peer-to-peer innovation across geographies and offers leveraged knowledge transfer opportunities as well as access to a collaborative network of industry experts to fill this gap.

It is time to reduce reliance on public finance by leveraging private finance for public good.

The top 300 pension funds in the world manage US$18 trillion in assets. Earmarking only 5% of these funds for nature positive investments will free up US$ 900 billion and turbocharge system-scale transformation across the planet.

While there are many supply side conversations underway, there is limited demand side effort to develop shovel-ready projects. The Global Alliance works across countries and continents with champions at all levels to catalyze opportunities with the potential of a paradigm shift.
